From our March 5th Work Party: correcting the erosion around the Synnott Pond dam required these wire cages (called gabion baskets) and stone... 18 tons to be precise!

After the stone was dropped off by a front-end loader, it had to be picked up by hand...

...and passed from person to person...

...until the stone reached its final destination.

Eventually all the baskets were filled...

...resulting in very solid stream banks below the dam.

From our November 5th Work Party: ten more tons of stone to move, and backfill dirt, too!

New gabion baskets were placed on top of old, then filled with stone.

Some stones could be delivered with a careful pitch. Bob Bevilacqua shows how it is done.
