Who We Are

WEC is a specialized branch of the Wenonah, New Jersey borough government which is charged with preserving Wenonah's unique natural resources for the enjoyment of local residents.  WEC manages 135 acres of conservation land, which is over 21% of the borough's land area.  Within these areas, we maintain over six miles of hiking trails, including 40 bridges over various bodies of water.

Our long-standing objective is to create a "Ring of Green" around the borough.  The ring is a continuous area of land kept not just in an undeveloped state, but in a healthy and accessible state.  To that end, WEC has and continues to:

  • Restore Wenonah's historic ponds and lakes.
  • Protect our streams from silt-laden runoff, trash, and other debris.
  • Construct foot trails to allow everyone to appreciate our natural wonders close-up.
  • Educate the public -- and especially our youngest citizens -- about our local environment and how to best conserve it.

WEC is composed of seven officially-appointed members who guide the activities of associate members and volunteers.  The current commission members are:

  • Scott Barnes, Chairman and Planning Board Representative
  • Dave Kreck, Vice Chairman
  • Bob Bevilacqua
  • Rich Dilks, Secretary
  • Maria Ceravolo
  • Sharon Ceravolo
  • Julie Ream

The ANJEC website has a good explanation of the role of Environmental Commissions in New Jersey.
